How to add an AI chatbot to your Shopify store. Set up in minutes.

Shoppers ask the same questions all day and all night. Do you ship to Canada? What's your return window? Is this in stock in a medium? If nobody answers, a lot of them just close the tab. An AI chatbot can answer those questions for you, around the clock, from your own store info.

This guide shows you how to put ChatBouncer on a Shopify store. The install itself is one line of code pasted into your theme, and it takes a few minutes. You don't need a developer.

Quick note on apps: the ChatBouncer app isn't in the Shopify App Store yet; it's coming soon. Today you can paste one line into your theme (shown below), or email [email protected] for a private install link that adds a no-code app embed. Both put the same chat box on your store.

What you need before you start

  • A Shopify store, with access to the admin.
  • A ChatBouncer account. Start a 14-day free trial. Cancel before it ends and you won't be charged.
  • A few minutes for the install, plus a little longer the first time to check your store info.

Want to see it on your own store first? Paste your store address into the free preview on the homepage. It reads your public pages and builds a temporary chat box you can talk to. No signup needed.

Step 1: Give the chatbot your store info

The chatbot only answers from the info you save. That's the point: it won't invent a discount, a shipping time or a policy you don't have.

  1. Sign up and give ChatBouncer your store's website.
  2. It pulls in your hours, prices, services and FAQs.
  3. Check what it found in your dashboard. Fix anything that's off and add what's missing.

For an online store, the questions worth covering are the ones your inbox already gets:

  • Shipping: where you ship, how long it takes, what it costs.
  • Returns and exchanges: the window, the condition items must be in, who pays return shipping.
  • Sizing and fit: link or summarize your size guide.
  • Payment and discounts: which payment methods you take, and how current offers work.
  • How to reach a person: email, phone, hours.

Step 2: Copy your one line of code

  1. In your ChatBouncer dashboard, open your assistant and go to the Widget & embed tab.
  2. Click Copy code. It's one line that looks like this (yours has your own key):<script src="https://chatbouncer.com/w.js" data-key="pk_…" async></script>
  3. On the same tab, under Your website domains, add every address your store uses: your own domain (for example yourstore.com) and your yourstore.myshopify.com address. Save.

The chat box only runs on the addresses you list. If someone copies your code onto another site, it won't load there.

Step 3: Paste the code into your Shopify theme

This works on any Shopify theme.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store › Themes.
  2. Optional but smart: on your current theme, open the … menu and choose Duplicate, so you have a backup copy.
  3. On your current theme, open the … menu and choose Edit code.
  4. In the file list, open layout/theme.liquid.
  5. Scroll to the bottom and find the closing </body> tag.
  6. Paste your ChatBouncer line just above </body>.
  7. Click Save.

That's it. Because the line is in theme.liquid, the chat box shows on every page of your store. The script loads asynchronously, so it doesn't hold up your page.

Prefer not to touch theme code?

Email [email protected] with your store's .myshopify.com address and we'll send your private install link. Open it while logged in to your Shopify admin and click Install. Then go to Online Store, click Edit theme, click the App embeds icon, turn on Chat box (ChatBouncer), paste your code (or just the pk_… key) and click Save. The full walkthrough is in our Shopify install guide.

Step 4: Check it and go live

  1. Open your store in a new tab. The chat button shows in the bottom corner. Ask it something your customers ask, like your return window.
  2. Back in your ChatBouncer dashboard, press Go live so your assistant starts answering visitors.
  3. Try it on your phone too. The chat box takes on your brand color and works on phones.

Don't see the button? Check that the address in your browser bar matches one of the addresses under Your website domains. Still stuck? Email [email protected]. A real person answers.

What the chatbot does once it's live

  • Answers 24/7 from your own info. Shipping, returns, sizing, hours, policies, at 2 a.m. too.
  • Doesn't make things up. When it isn't sure, it says the owner will confirm, takes the customer's contact and emails you the question. No invented discounts, no fake promises.
  • Lets you take over. Reply to a conversation from your dashboard and the AI pauses in that chat.
  • Bounces the junk. Spam, abuse, off-topic requests and prompt tricks like "give me a 100% discount" get turned away.
  • Protects your bill. Message limits per visitor, per IP address and per business, and extra messages on paid plans capped at $300 a month ($15 per extra 1,500).

Which plan fits a Shopify store?

Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial, and prices are in US dollars.

Questions

Is there a ChatBouncer app in the Shopify App Store?

Not yet. It's coming soon. Today you can paste one line into your theme, or email [email protected] for a private install link that adds an app embed.

Will the chatbot slow down my store?

No. The script loads asynchronously, so it doesn't hold up your page.

What happens if I change themes?

The line lives in your theme's theme.liquid file. If you switch to a different theme, paste the line into the new theme's theme.liquid too.

Does it work on my myshopify.com address?

Yes, as long as you add yourstore.myshopify.com under Your website domains along with your own domain.

Can it look up order status?

No. It doesn't connect to your order system. It collects the order number and email and sends them to you.

What does it cost?

Plans start at $29 a month (USD), with a 14-day free trial. Cancel before the trial ends and you won't be charged.
